Cyberattacks are not showing any signs of abating during the global Cybersecurity Awareness Month. After registering a slight dip in the first week of October, the numbers rose significantly across regions and verticals last week. Cyberattacks on manufacturing, oil and gas and healthcare sectors rose significantly last week. Cyberattacks grew by the highest margin in the US, India and Japan.

IoT vulnerabilities and challenges with securing OT are creating opportunities for hackers to exploit. Our assesment of over 70 million cyberattacks points to a coordinated effort to target various entities. The attacks are emerging from 3/5 major clusters that are operational across South East Asia and the Middle East.

Rising cyber-attacks on the oil and gas sector is a matter of concern. These attacks have continually risen for the last 7 weeks (other than a slight dip in the week of 26th September). Hackers are using oil and gas deployments as a testbed to launch new malware specifically targeting networks connected assets and industrial control and safety systems.
